Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries’ songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. The contest has been broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1956 and is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. It is also one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world, with audience figures having been quoted in recent years as anything between 100 million and 600 million internationally. Eurovision has also been broadcast outside Europe to such places as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, Uruguay and Venezuela despite the fact that they do not compete.Since 2000, the contest has also been broadcast over the Internet, with more than 74,000 people in almost 140 countries having watched the 2006 edition online.

It was hosted by Adrian Chiles from 2006 to 2009, and Dara Ó Briain took over as host in 2010. The programme airs in a 30 minute slot after each episode of The Apprentice finishes. It was originally shown on BBC Three, but moved to BBC Two in 2007. Each episode begins with host Dara Ó Briain entering, sitting at a table and addressing the camera, where he explains the content of the upcoming programme and shows a video clip of the highlights.

A video of the moment that the candidate is fired is then shown, and that person is introduced onto the stage. An interview then takes place between O’Briain and the candidate, with the celebrity guests airing their views in between “never before seen” footage. Often, the family of the fired candidate are also interviewed and Lord Sugar reveals why that person had to leave. . At the end, the guests are asked whether they agree with Lord Sugar’s decision, and the studio audience are asked to vote on whether the candidate should have been fired, by holding up the appropriate card (a red “FIRED!” card or a green “HIRED” card).

Created by Collins Avenue Productions, it is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the Abby Lee Dance Company, and follows children’s early careers in dance show business. Abby Lee Miller is the owner of her self-named dance company in Pittsburgh, which she started at age 14. Abby is very tough on the girls, shouts regularly and sometimes her actions can be taken the wrong way but at the end of the day, Abby says she loves the girls and is simply trying to help them succeed.

Every week on the show, Abby Lee Miller uses a pyramid to show the moms and the dancers who she feels did the best in her eyes, and who needs to improve. The pyramid changes every week, but primarily consist of Maddie Ziegler on top. It became a subject of controversy among viewers because of its negative aspect. Abby Lee did not do the pyramid relating to shame before the show. Nia, Brooke, Paige and Makenzie are usually at the bottom or middle of the pyramid and Chloe is usually 2nd right behind Maddie.

Taffer is a bar and nightclub owner who has started, flipped, or owned over 600 establishments in a career that spans over three decades. Taffer (a long-time food & beverage industry consultant specializing in nightclubs and pubs), who offers his professional expertise—at no charge—to desperately failing bars in order to save them from closing. Taffer’s team members (who often massively overhaul the food and/or drink menus, too) train the staff on methods of improving their product prep, customer service, and efficiency skills. Next, he closes the bar for a few days, to allow design and construction crews to completely renovate the business for free (including, if needed, deep-cleaning the kitchen). Once the overhauled bar (often re-branded with a new name of Taffer’s choosing, consistent with his customized marketing plan) is unveiled, he takes ownership and staff on a grand tour of its new features, equipment, uniforms, etc.

The episode ends with an epilogue that usually takes place 4–8 weeks after re-launch. In it, ownership and/or staff are interviewed to see if they have reverted to their failing ways, went out of business even with the rescue assistance, or how much better sales/profitability have become by staying loyal to Taffer’s long-range business plan.

It is currently narrated by the comedian Harry Hill. During the show, the video clips are played and the people who sent them in receive £250. Hill provides commentary on the clips via voice-over, which means more clips can be shown, as well as being seen by some as a cost-cutting exercise. Submission of clips is free (without stampage) and in recent years, the show began accepting clips via e-mail, and more recently, the inclusion of mobile phone videos; noted on-screen by a small mobile symbol in the corner.

In the show, Hill makes regular obtuse references to the Norfolk market town of Swaffham, in reprisal of the serious injuries he once received in a bizarre bird attack in the town. Before the advert break, a “What Happens Next?” competition, where the viewers have to guess what happens after a clip is frozen, or “Framed Gold Records” competition, where viewers have to guess how many times something can happen before something else happens (for example, how many people can fall over before a dog gets through a very tight space?), is played. The answer is revealed after the break. The show is similar in format to a number of shows worldwide, including America’s Funniest Home Videos and Australia’s Funniest Home Video Show. In a deal with various foreign producers of similar shows, many imported clips are used, in exchange for home-grown videos from the UK.

Contestants must answer questions to win counters to use on a coin pusher arcade machine that releases counters worth £50 each. Dropping the counters down a choice of four drop zones, they hope to knock piles of them off a moving shelf and into the red zone (referred to by Shepard as the “Win Zone”) – and the more they collect, the greater the eventual prize fund. The player who has won the least amount of money in each round is then eliminated until only one player remains to play for the jackpot of £10,000.

For series 2, a new element was added. At the start of the game, there are 3 “Mystery” counters bearing a question mark (?) logo in the machine (2 on the upper shelf, 1 on the lower). If one of these counters enters the win zone, not only does the contestant in control of the machine win £50, they also win a Mystery Prize. The prizes have included cases of wine, short breaks etc.

It is based on the original Australian show Taken Out and began airing on ITV in the UK and TV3 in the Republic of Ireland on 2 January 2010; in September 2010, TV3 started broadcasting an Irish version of the show. The pilot episode was for Channel 4 in 2009. The series is produced by Thames (formerly talkbackTHAMES) for ITV.

The objective of the show is for a single man to gain a date with one of thirty single women. The women stand on stage underneath thirty white lights, each with a button in front of them. A single man is then brought on stage via the ‘Love Lift’ and tries to woo the women in a series of rounds, playing a pre-recorded dating video, displaying a skill (such as dancing or playing a musical instrument), or playing another video in which the man’s friends or family reveal more about him. At any point during the rounds, the women can press the button in front of them to turn off their light (their area of the stage will turn red if they do so). If, at the end of three rounds, there are still lights left on, the bachelor will turn off all but two of the remaining lights himself. He will then have a chance to ask one question to the last two women, before choosing which woman he wants to go on a date with by turning off one more light.

It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.Since its launch, Twitter has become one of the ten most visited websites on the Internet, and has been described as “the SMS of the Internet.” Unregistered users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets through the website interface, SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices. Twitter’s usage spikes during prominent events. For example, a record was set during the 2010 FIFA World Cup when fans wrote 2,940 tweets per second in the thirty-second period after Japan scored against Cameroon on June 14, 2010. The record was broken again when 3,085 tweets per second were posted after the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory in the 2010 NBA Finals on June 17, 2010, and then again at the close of Japan’s victory over Denmark in the World Cup when users published 3,283 tweets per second. The current record as of January 1, 2013, was set by all citizens of the Japan Standard Time Zone as the new year began, reaching a record of 33,388 tweets per second.

Primarily a crime drama, the show is also peppered with broadly comic touches. It stars Alan Davies as the title character, who works as a creative consultant to a magician while also solving seemingly supernatural mysteries through his talent for logical deduction and knowledge of illusionism. The series ran semi-regularly from 1997 to 2004, airing four series and two Christmas specials, initially co-starring Caroline Quentin as Creek’s collaborator, writer Maddie Magellan. After Quentin’s departure in 2001, Julia Sawalha joined the cast as new character Carla Borrego, a theatrical agent turned television presenter. Following a five-year hiatus, the series returned for a one-off special on 1 January 2009, “The Grinning Man”, which featured Sheridan Smith as another paranormal investigator with whom Creek joins forces. A further 90-minute special “The Judas Tree”, was filmed in October 2009 and broadcast on 4 April 2010. A third special, “The Clue of the Savant’s Thumb”, is due to air Easter 2013. The cult success of the series won it the BAFTA for Best Drama Series in 1998. It was notable for featuring comic characters and sub-plots which lent a lot of humour to the series. The programme usually features ‘impossible crimes’, for example an offence having been committed in a sealed environment from which no criminal could have escaped (a “locked room mystery”), paranormal thefts and murders.

Sanford and Son is an American sitcom, based on the BBC’s Steptoe and Son, that ran on the NBC television network from January 14, 1972, to March 25, 1977. Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford, a 65-year-old widower and junk dealer living at 9114 S. Central Ave. in the Watts neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles, California; alongside Demond Wilson as his 30-year-old son, Lamont Sanford. Foxx portrayed Sanford as a sarcastic, irascible schemer whose frequent get-rich-quick ideas routinely backfire. His son Lamont longs for independence, but he loves his father too much to move out on his own and leave the trouble-prone Fred unsupervised. Though each owns an equal share in the business and though, technically, Fred is the boss, Lamont often finds himself doing all the work and having to order his father to complete tasks and duties. Fred often insults his son, usually calling him a “big dummy.” Lamont also insults his father, referring to him as an “old fool.” However, the two share a close bond and regularly come to each other’s aid. On the show’s premiere in 1972, newspaper ads touted Foxx as NBC’s answer to Archie Bunker, the bigoted white protagonist of All in the Family. (Both shows were adapted by Norman Lear from BBC shows; Sanford And Son was adapted from Steptoe And Son and All in the Family was the American version of Till Death Us Do Part.)
