Halo is a science fiction video game franchise created by Bungie and owned and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The series centers
on the interstellar war between humanity and a theocratic alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The Covenant worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitical Flood. The main trilogy of games center on the experiences of the Master Chief, John-117, a cybernetically-enhanced human super-soldier, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. In this setting, the term “Halo” refers to Halo megastructures: large, habitable ringed structures, similar to the Orbitals in Iain M Banks’ Culture novels, or to smaller versions of Larry Niven’s Ringworld.
The series has been praised as being among the best first-person shooters on a video game console, and are considered the Microsoft Xbox’s “killer app”. This has led to the term “Halo killer” being used to describe console games that aspire, or are considered, to be better than Halo. Fueled by the success of Halo: Combat Evolved, and immense marketing campaigns from publisher Microsoft, its sequels went on to break various sales records. Halo 3 sold more than US$170 million worth of copies in the first twenty-four hours of release, breaking the record set by Halo 2 three years prior. Halo: Reach, in turn, broke the record set by Halo 3, selling $200 million USD worth of copies on its first day.The games have sold over 34 million copies worldwide, and all Halo merchandise has grossed more than $1.7 billion.

Jumped back. ODST sucked. It seemed as if Bungie just didnt give a fuck anymore and they got lazy. But then out came Halo Reach which was one of the best if not the best Halo game so far.
All in all though the greatest series of games ever IMHO. Bring on the new trilogy.

@Tez, I disagree, ODST never sucked, it just never quite lived up to the earlier Halo games, particularly one and two. It was still far better than Halo Wars and I liked the new angle of ODST, i.e. you played a marine rather than a spartan…ok I arguably got too much into the back story around the Halo universe but that’s easily cured by women and alcohol.

Never jumped. Ofcourse some of the games wont be as great as the original. No surprise there. Fantastic series of games, maybe the best ever?. Looking forward to the remastered original

First was a great game and still is.
I thought the games that followed although still good by any other standard lacked the quality of the original. Lowlights were Halo Wars and ODST.
But Halo Reach is not only the best Halo game but probably on of my favorite games ever. Halo : Combat Evolved is being remastered and given a new release. I’m looking forward to it.

Halo Wars was terrible! If it had come out in the mid 90s it would have been passable. The cut scenes were great though!
However this aside, Halo was an awesome series! Will they make a movie?!

Jumped at Halo 3.
Not sure what went wrong with this but it lacked the depth and story of the first two games.
Halo Wars was complete crap. I expect this from Command & Conquer not Halo. ODST ?? again lacked any depth, any decent story arc or any real challenge.
Halo: Reach was better but by this point my love for the series faded after too many lazy releases. Bring back Master Chief!!!

ODST was the weakest of all the Halo games.
But then the Bungie team goes back to basics and comes fighting back with Halo: Reach!!! Which is in my opinion the best Halo game ever.
