The Cosby Show is an American television situation comedy starring Bill Cosby, first airing on September 20, 1984 and running for eight seasons on the NBC
television network, until April 30, 1992. The show focuses on the Huxtable family, an affluent African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York. According to TV Guide, the show “was TV’s biggest hit in the 1980s, and almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre and NBC’s ratings fortunes”. Originally, the show had been pitched to ABC, which rejected it.Entertainment Weekly stated that The Cosby Show helped to make possible a larger variety of shows based on African Americans, from In Living Color to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The Cosby Show was also one of the first successful sitcoms based on the subject matter of a standup comedian’s act, blazing a trail for other programs such as Seinfeld, Ellen, Roseanne, Home Improvement, The Drew Carey Show, and Everybody Loves Raymond.
The show was noted for portraying only a certain portion of the African-American population. Conversely, it was praised for a portrayal of African-Americans who were educated and successful, contrary to mainstream racist stereotypes. As of 2010, The Cosby Show is the third-longest running U.S. comedy with a predominantly African American cast, surpassed only by The Jeffersons and Family Matters.

Cousin Pam and her friends had their funny moments, but what was weird about it was how randomly she was brought in. Cousin Pam was never mentioned before in any of the episodes in the past, and all of a sudden here she is on Cliff’s doorstep, and from then on tons of episodes were suddenly devoted to and her friends. It went from the “Cosby Show” to “Cousin Pam & Company” overnight. I think that’s what bugged some ppl was how Pam, Lance, Charmaine etc were suddenly the main characters with no prior explanation and now everybody else was barely shown anymore even Cliff lol

Not only cousin Pam but her friends too. There was whole episodes devoted to these new characters we didnt even know or care about.

Everyone is forgetting cousin Pam. The mysterious never before mentioned cousin who appeared from nowhere that we were expected to care about. How many people stayed in the house at one point??

The Cosby Show jumped in several way:
1) Sandra-not only was she white in a black family *yeah I said it) plus Claire asked Cliff in one episode why did they have four children and he said because they did not want five. Where did she come from>
2.) Denise married that one dude that Sandra dated in the second season and no one seemed to notice
3.) They had too many family members staying in a brownstone.
